EMMA EMBODY

Do you have something you want to get to the bottom of?Maybe it’s the ache in your heart that won’t go away, or the thing you do that you don’t like about yourself, that you understand intellectually and have maybe even spent years trying to change, but somehow you still can’t get any traction on it.It might be destructive. It might be something you’re ashamed of. It might just be that gnawing feeling that leaves you irritated from the inside, shutting down your heart a little more than you want to admit.Or maybe the something isn’t a problem at all. Maybe you want to know what it would be like to be fully in love with your life. To have more intimate relationships. To feel yourself more deeply. To stop standing slightly outside your own experience of being alive.Usually it’s more than one something. They tend to reveal themselves as we go.The question then becomes the quest. So, what do we actually do?I don’t have a formula for this work, which is partly the point. You bring the thing you want to understand, change, unravel, grieve, feel, get free from, get closer to, whatever it is, and we begin there. We use all the tools available to us. Somatics is one of them, and it’s an extraordinary way of exploring yourself through the body, especially when you have reached the limits of thinking. And life is somatic. Crying and dancing and eating and communing and sex and ritual and grief are humans living in their bodies. We have become so mentally-centric as a culture that many of us have lost contact with the natural intelligence of sensation and emotion, and with what can happen when the mind is allowed to follow the body's lead instead of commanding its authority.

What I bring to the work

There are other things I bring to the work too. I’ve formally trained in somatics, nervous system work, sexuality and relationship coaching, yoga and energy work, and I’ve spent much of my life in practices of movement and body discipline, self-inquiry, spirituality, sexuality and energetics. But some of the deepest training has been living through the initiations of my own life. Motherhood and partnership, unexpected pregnancies and the very real work of scrapping together a family, grief and change and all the ways life has asked me to become someone I wasn’t yet.Life initiates all of us. Not always in the ways we would choose, and rarely when we feel ready. I don’t think living through difficult things makes you wise, but I do think staying in relationship with what life brings us (letting it work on us, being willing to look at ourselves inside of it) can bring about the harvesting of wisdom. For the last twenty years I’ve also had the deep honor of learning from extraordinary teachers and being held by practices and lineages that have shaped how I understand the body, relationship, sexuality, spirit, healing and what it means to be human. I don’t need to name all of them here, but I do want to acknowledge them. None of this work would exist without the guidance of my teachers, and so much of what I bring has been given to me, taught to me, practiced with me and passed down through others. I take the honor of being a student with reverence and seriousness. And I’ve done and continue to do my own work. But I don’t want to give you a long list of modalities because I don’t think the modality is the work. The work is paying very close attention to what is actually happening, following what has life in it, and being willing to go somewhere we may not have anticipated when we started.Sometimes that is surprisingly ordinary. Sometimes it is not.The body gives us an endless ground for exploration, for unraveling the stories that live in the landscape of the body.I don’t think any of this puts me above you or makes me an expert on your life. You are the sole expert of your life. But it gives me things to bring, tools. This work is human to human. You bring your question and your willingness to go there, and I will meet you there and bring what I’ve got.

The actual arrangement

Once a weekWe meet once a week for one hour over Zoom. Having a regular rhythm is important for this kind of work; it gives us enough continuity to actually stay with what we're exploring rather than starting over every time we meet. The groupThere is also an optional monthly group session on Zoom, which is included in the cost of your work with me. Come if you want to. No pressure if you don't.Six monthsThis is a six-month commitment. You'll be charged monthly at the rate you choose for six months, and at the end we'll decide whether it feels right to continue or whether our work together is complete for now.Five peopleI'm only taking five people for this work. I want to keep it small enough that I actually have the space in my life to be present for the people I'm working with.Once you sign up, I'll email you personally to schedule our first session and get you everything you need to begin.

Payment

There are three ways to pay for the same work:$350/month$500/month$650/monthChoose what works for you.You don't get more of me for paying $650, and you don't get a diminished version of the work for paying $350. I'm offering three prices because people have different amounts of money available to them, and I'd rather leave some room for that reality. At the same time, paying for your work is important. The exchange matters and, in my experience, it deepens the work. Be honest with yourself about your circumstances, what you can afford, and what feels like a real exchange, and choose from there.
